School supplies 2010
During 2010 we continued with our collaboration in the same population as in the project of 2009, specifically in Galle, Sri Lanka. We contacted the authority in the area, Mr. Mayor Metshiri De Silva, to continue with the collaboration of the projects of our NGO AUOP.
WE VISITED THE FAMILIES BEING SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE HELP OF AUOP
To verify their status, the NGO “UNA OPORTUNIDAD PARA LOS DEMÁS” introduces itself to each of the families in order to continue the supply of shoes, backpacks and school supplies for their children. This year we help 141 children.
PREPARATIONS FOR THE PROJECT 2011
We visited a Buddhist Temple in Opatha, near Galle, which needs help to build a preschool for needy families, as the one that is in use at that time is in very poor condition.
Given the circumstances and school conditions, AUOP NGO hands over various toys, school colors and paintings donated to the association by a school and several people from Terrassa (Spain).
The project is valued favorably and legal formalities for the construction of the school start after coordinating with the religious members of the Temple and the public administration regarding the area. Its construction will take place in 2011.
FOOD DELIVERY FROM AUOP NGO IN THE NORTH
We went to the north of the island of Sri Lanka, to the city of Pooneryn, affected by the civil war of Sri Lanka, which began in July 1983 with an uprising of a separatist organization which fought to create an independent state in the North and East of the island. For over 25 years, the insurgency caused huge difficulties to the population and to the country’s economy. After two decades of fighting and three failed attempts to achieve peace, in 2009 the government defeated this movement and restored peace on the island.
